Interview with Dr. Maharshi Rajdev

Q: Dr. Rajdev, can you tell us about your mission and focus on helping women with fibroids?

Dr. Rajdev: My mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care to women suffering from fibroids. Fibroids can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life, causing symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and infertility. I aim to offer minimally invasive treatments that effectively manage these symptoms and improve my patients’ overall well-being. Educating women about their condition and available treatments is also a crucial part of my mission. I believe that informed patients are empowered patients.

Q: What inspired you to specialize in treating fibroids?

Dr. Rajdev: During my medical training, I realized that fibroids are a prevalent issue, affecting many women, yet often, the available treatment options were not fully explored or explained. This gap in care motivated me to specialize in fibroid treatment. I wanted to ensure that women had access to the latest, most effective minimally invasive procedures. Seeing the dramatic improvement in my patients’ lives post-treatment is incredibly rewarding and drives my passion for this specialty.

Q: Can you share with us your educational background and training?

Dr. Rajdev: Certainly. I completed my medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. Following this, I pursued a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the esteemed Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. To further specialize, I completed a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts. This extensive training has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide advanced care for women with fibroids.

Q: What are some of the specialties and treatments you offer at Preferred Fibroid?

Dr. Rajdev: At Preferred Fibroid, we offer a range of treatments tailored to the individual needs of our patients. We provide procedures such as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a minimally invasive procedure that shrinks fibroids by cutting off their blood supply, and Laparoscopic Myomectomy, which is a surgical procedure to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus, ideal for women who wish to maintain fertility. We also offer Endometrial Ablation for treating heavy menstrual bleeding associated with fibroids, and a variety of medical management options, including hormonal therapies that help control symptoms and shrink fibroids. Each treatment plan is personalized based on the patient’s symptoms, the size and location of the fibroids, and their reproductive goals.

Q: Outside of your professional work, do you have any personal hobbies or interests that you enjoy?

Dr. Rajdev: Yes, outside of my professional life, I have several hobbies that I am passionate about. I enjoy running and have participated in numerous marathons over the years. Running not only helps me stay physically fit but also provides a great way to clear my mind and de-stress. I am also an avid reader and enjoy exploring different genres, from medical literature to historical fiction. Additionally, I love spending time with my family and exploring the outdoors.

Q: Why do you enjoy running, and how do you balance this with your demanding career?

Dr. Rajdev: Running is a fantastic way to maintain physical and mental health. It provides a sense of accomplishment and helps me stay disciplined. Balancing running with my career is about prioritizing and making time for activities that rejuvenate me. Early morning runs fit well into my schedule and set a positive tone for the day. It’s all about finding a routine that works and sticking to it.

Q: What do you love about living and working in Akron?

Dr. Rajdev: Akron is a wonderful place to live and work. The community here is welcoming and supportive, and there is a strong sense of camaraderie among healthcare professionals. The city’s rich history and cultural diversity make it an exciting place to call home. Akron offers a great mix of urban and suburban living, with plenty of parks and recreational areas, which is perfect for my love of running and outdoor activities. Additionally, working at Akron General Medical Center provided me with invaluable experience and connections that have been crucial in my career.

Q: How do you see the future of fibroid treatment evolving, and what role do you hope to play in it?

Dr. Rajdev: The future of fibroid treatment is very promising, with ongoing advancements in minimally invasive techniques and personalized medicine. I believe that as we continue to develop new technologies and refine our understanding of fibroids, we will be able to offer even more effective and less invasive treatment options. My goal is to stay at the forefront of these advancements, continually updating my skills and knowledge to provide my patients with the best possible care. I also hope to contribute to research and education in this field, helping to spread awareness and improve treatment outcomes globally.
